types of color

i didnt know there were two types of color

structural color = the surface of the object has a microscopic texture with bumps the perfect size (400-750nm) such that they cause light waves themselves to bounce off at odd angles. this typically occurs most readily with the shorter wavelengths eg blue/violet, thats why a cloud of white smoke sometimes looks faintly blue, or a glass of water mixed with flour/cornstarch appears blue

pigment color =

"Pigment color differs from structural color in that pigment color is the same for all viewing angles, whereas structural color is the result of selective reflection or iridescence, usually because of multilayer structures."
